History Of Progressive Life Insurance
Progressive is an insurance company that has been running for more than 80 years strong.
It was founded by the duo of Jack Green and Joseph Lewis, who initially started it as a mutual insurance business.
They began with car insurance, but have since started offering a little bit of everything.
Once the 50s and 60s arrived, the company expanded to new and larger offices, at which point they became a corporation. The company cracked the billion-dollar premium mark in the late 80s and past the $2 billion mark in the mid-90s.
The company now offers a series of plans and policies for all sorts of insurance types and helps customers from all walks of life.

A Glimpse Into Progressive
Progressive was founded during the Great Depression and is still going very strong.
The foundation of the company lies in its core values, which include excellence, integrity, and objectives.
Their marketing and brand recognition is a big reason for this – thanks in part to the wildly popular Flo from Progressive commercials. Flo is a character widely used for marketing their brand. She is so recognizable that people often dress up as her for Halloween.
IMPORTANT:
Progressive utilizes eFinancial, a third-party site to facilitate their quotes as well as issue their life insurance policies. So technically when you purchase life insurance through Progressive it’s really being sold to you through eFinancial.
Life Insurance Quotes on The Progressive Website (IMPORTANT)
When testing quotes on the Progressive website, we noticed that we were only provided with a total of 4 companies to choose from.
These companies included a no medical exam option offered through Fidelity as well as rates provided through:
- Mutual of Omaha
- Protective
- Prudential
- Transamerica
While all four of these companies are great and also provided through Top Quote Life Insurance, we are not sure why Progressive is limiting their results to only those particular companies when there are several more options available. Cheaper options too!
We ran this test with a few different age scenarios and still kept getting offered only the same 5 companies as our only available option.
In addition to limited company options, we had a difficult time getting new quotes if we backed out of the website.
It appeared that the website uses cookies that stored our information preventing us to re-run additional quotes. Since they knew we ran a quote and left the website we kept getting a display that stated that they had our request and that a life insurance agent would be in contact.
The problem with that is that we did not request an application and we only wanted to check out different rates without being contacted.
When we tried to run a permanent life insurance quote we were not provided with any company rates and again, just a message stating that an insurance representative would be in contact.
We can see this being a big nuisance for anyone who is just looking for some initial rates.
Other Insurance Products that Progressive Offers
Progressive started small, but now offers plenty of insurance options. In addition to life insurance, you can shop for health insurance, homeowners insurance, auto insurance, and even travel insurance and more.
The best part about these different options is that you can often bundle your packages in order to receive some insurance discounts such as home and auto insurance.
By speaking to a Progressive agent or one of their many third-party services that Progressive works with, you can learn more about their bundling so that you can save some money.
NOTE:
Bundling usually only provides a discount to your home and autos. It generally does not apply to your life insurance premiums. That said, don’t be afraid to shop your life insurance outside of who you have your home and auto insurance coverage with.

How Customers Perceive Progressive Life Insurance
Progressive gets high ratings and reviews across the board.
Perhaps the best example of this is the fact that Progressive life insurance has an A+ Better Business Bureau rating. Their reputation is strong, which is why so many people buy plans.
Customers like the superb, 24/7 customer support. Progressive also has an easy to use online platform and plenty of policy options.
In terms of criticisms, some customers would like a more intuitive and responsive platform to shop for insurance premium rates.
It’s easy to get up and running with a Progressive policy, as you’ll be able to quickly print out your information and view your documents as you get the ball rolling on the process.
What To Look For In Your Life Insurance Policy
The first thing you need to understand is that there are many different types of life insurance plans. You’ll need to research these different plans as you figure out what will best serve your financial and personal needs.
Some examples of the many different life insurance policies include term life insurance, universal life insurance, and whole life insurance.
Once you are ready to shop for life insurance, be sure that you look into their requirements. Getting one of these plans may require a physical that is provided by the insurance company, which will typically involve blood work.
NOTE: We also have many term life insurance plans that do not require a physical.
Insurance companies will look into your health record and personal history in order to calculate your final premium and the terms of your plan as a whole.
It’s important to know that each company is different and will view both health conditions, as well as, personal history differently than their competition.
With that being said, you shouldn’t see it as the end of the road when you’re rejected or given high prices from one company.
A great way to avoid guessing which company will be favorable to your individual criteria would be to work with an independent agent or agency that has knowledge in each companies underwriting guidelines.
For example, let’s say you’re diabetic or someone with elevated blood pressure or even cholesterol, with a few details of your medical condition, we can make sure we quote and fit you with a life insurance company that is going to give you the best price for your pre-existing health condition.
Fitting you with the right company the first time can save you in what could turn into a frustrating process of getting life insurance coverage.
How and Why You Should Shop Around For Life Insurance
When you know that you need life insurance, it’s important to start shopping around quotes from multiple companies. You can do this with Progressive Life Insurance or better yet, right here with Top Quote Life Insurance.
The quotes that you get are free of charge and you’re under no obligation to accept a policy until you have agreed and paid for the coverage.
As a consumer, it’s vital that you shop around since there are so many life insurance policies available from many different companies.
It’s important to note that you can shop for life insurance through Progressive and since Progressive uses eFinancial, you’ll have access to more than one option.
In addition to working with eFinancial, companies like Top Quote Life Insurance specialize in life insurance plans and can give you access to policies not offered by Progressive.
For example, during our test of their quoter we noticed right off the bat that there were several cheaper options than the quotes provided to us through the Progressive Life Insurance website.
It may also be worth your while because eFinancial and Progressive require a great deal of information before they’ll give you a quote, while Top Quote Life Insurance will give you a quote quickly while requiring minimal information from you.
While Progressive could be a great life insurance company, never sign a policy with them without looking at plans from as many insurance companies as possible.
This way you’ll find the most affordable premium and will get access to the policy that will best protect your wealth.
